Shaki Gets i-D'd
Shakira is
the cover girl for i-D Magazine's November issue, and, as usual, she kills it!
Kayt Jones photographed the torrid, leather-clad spread, but the sexy songstress showed her softer side in the interview, talking business and pleasure. Some highlights:
On her video for She Wolf:
"I wanted to express my vision, I wanted to articulate with images what I feel the song relates to, what it symbolizes. The golden cage that I’m in is a metaphor, because I feel like I’ve been inside a golden cage in my life for many years, with the anticipation of an animal wanting to get out. When I got into that cage for the first time for the shoot, I feel like I went completely unconsciousness at that moment. They hit ‘play’, the music started and at that moment I stared hanging from the bars upside down… the whole performance in that cage is an improvisation. I felt somehow possessed by the spirit of the She Wolf. The She Wolf that has been inside of me all these years, longing to come out. I feel much more like a woman today. I feel more inclined to certain things, to express myself in certain ways and to talk about things with less prudence."On whether she would ever pose nude:
No, I don’t want to, I don’t need to, I don’t feel the need, I don’t think I could do it. I couldn’t be nude. Maybe when I’m 40 and I have another change of mind. I mean, 10 years ago, I could never have imagined myself in a nude leotard, with high heels, inside a golden cage, hanging from bars. 10 years ago I would have not done it. Today I say I’m never going to get naked ever, but people change, our views change so much. My views on marriage, on so many things, on life, constantly change. On her marriage plans with her fiance and boyfriend of 10 years, Antonia de la Rúa:
"Well, maybe 10 years ago, or 15 years ago, I would dream about wearing a white gown, and a wedding cake and a room full of guests and I would feed them canapés, but now I dream about growing old with the person I love. My priorities don’t involve an institution, or a signed piece of paper that is supposed to ratify our love or the mutual commitment that we have for each other. I don’t believe it absolutely necessary. I respect people that do it, but I don’t think it’s necessary for me."On performing at President Barack Obama's inauguration:
"Oh imagine, one of the most determining moments of modern history. I was there as a witness and I felt very honoured. It’s a story to tell my children about. It was very emotional. I’m part of a minority too and I feel I have a voice for many Latino’s in the US who don’t have a voice. So Obama getting the Presidency doesn’t only represent the triumph for the African-American community in the US, but for all the other minorities too, including the Latinos. It was a huge honour for me to be there at that moment and tell my children some day."
Shakira ROCKS!!!
