The crystal salt rocks used for our products were formed millions of years ago by natural forces. When the ancient sea near the Himalayas dried up from the energy of the sun, layers of salt were deposited deep into the earth.
During this period, the Himalaya mountain range was rising; many mountains rose to altitudes of more than 7000 meters. The layers of salt settled deep beneath these mountains. The layers were exposed to considerable pressure and intense temperatures, resulting in the formation of this rare crystal salt. When mining the salt crystals, the use of dynamite is strictly prohibited to preserve the natural crystal structure. Salt crystals for salt lamps are mined in Russia and central Europe as well.
Lamps are carefully hand-crafted to retain the beautiful and natural shape of the rock. Their main attraction is that the heating of the salt causes the crystal to release negative ions. Negative ions have long been considered healthy; the sea air, mountain air and the air around swiftly running water is high in negative ions. Indoor air, recirculated air, and air around electronic equipment is very low in negative ions. Research has shown that high levels of positive ions make us feel tired, depressed or irritable. Salt crystals naturally emit negative ions allowing air particles to achieve an optimal ionic balance.
Some of the salt lamps benefits include: a warm glow that gives any room a sense of calm, serenity, and relaxation; gives relief from stress-related symptoms; protects from electro-smog from computers, televisions, and electronics; offers help for headaches, migraine, feeling low and insomnia; cleans the air of tobacco smoke and many by-products; and alleviates breathing difficulties in asthmatics and bronchitis sufferers.
